Altering that Vintage Dress

This is my first time trying the sewing machine on clothes, it looks easy when i read or watch the tutorial online but it's not coz i'm still learning how to sew and i'm too lazy to hand sew it.

Anyways, I bought this dress in a charity shop awhile back for under £3 and thought it's cute but when i wear it, it looks so ridiculous on me, it swallows me up and the skirt is just too long, so it stayed in my wardrobe for a long time until last week as i was browsing online and found the tutorial on how to cut it and re-hem it.

I got rid off the pads on the shoulders, shortened the length of the skirt...though i was having trouble trying to iron it flat as the skirt is pleated and sew it straight is tough, the needle kept on going sideways! but anyways who would want to examine it closely? i like the result! what do you think?

I think i deserve a hot chocolate with marshmallows in it after that and i think i'll be wearing it at my friend's birthday dinner party next week :)

I still have a few clothes that i bought in charity shops that I wanted to get my hands on altering them next time.

Peter Pan Collar

I'm still crazy about Peter Pan collar since last year, I really want all of my dresses/tops that are plain on the collar to have Peter Pan Collar on them :P but since I don't think i have the budget to hunt down and buy every clothes that are cute and have Peter Pan collar on them, I have to resort on making it myself.

I found a tutorial to make the collar yourself from Transientexpression blog, Thanks to google and of course the lovely and talented Rachel who made and shared the tutorial, I finally can make my first Peter Pan Collar! but...

I made a mistake! i was so impatient that i didn't read it carefully the part where you should turn the dress/top inside out when you pin the collar and sew two seams on the collar! aaacckkk ...and when i printed out the pattern for the collar i forgot to set up the size so i think it looks bigger on the dress! i'm so tempted to pick my stitches and start from the beginning but i dont want to ruin my dress! (though it's a cheap dress coz I know i'll be experimenting and if it's ruined, i wont feel that bad)

I've learnt my lesson, i can see the stitches on the collar to the dress and it's not neat at all but i'll only wear it at home anyway but will try and make again and when i get the hang of it, i'll try and make something out of laces or different fabrics for the collar :)

The Joy Of Christmas

I have things i wanted to do but never get around of doing it this christmas but there's always next year hopefully :) I'm sure everyone else is also super busy right now that Christmas is 5 days away (time sure flies) but anyways I finally finished making my stocking on Sunday or rather ice skates from Tilda's Christmas Ideas book, i even made one for hubby :)

I even got time to make christmas decorations from a free kit that i got from Cross Stitcher magazine christmas issue, three cute little houses and of course another snowman :)

Yesterday I decided to bake some gingerbread cookies while listening to Elvis Christmas CD that I got from Sunday Mail, I just love the smell of cookies fresh from the oven and can't help having them even before i decorated them with icing sugar, it warms up the house and it's a lovely company for my tea.

I'm going to bake a Yule log perhaps on Friday or Saturday but right now i need to make a shopping list for Christmas Menu as we're going shopping to Sainsburys today.

Wishing everyone a lovely and full of Joy Christmas!

My Christmas Tree

My first craft fayre was abit disappointing despite the planning i made the night before, i still forgot things that i supposed to bring and i forgot my camera too! I guess people has finished shopping for christmas presents hence the lack of people who came to the fayre today though i'm thankful that i managed to sell a few things and still make a profit about £25 (£10 i had to pay for the table) :) it lasted til' 2pm and hubby picked me up and we went to sainsburys to buy turkey crown as we're inviting his parents on Christmas day.

We finally put up our Christmas tree today and had a relaxing afternoon watching Black Swan, Narnia The Voyage of the Dawn Trader and The Legend of The Guardians. I even managed to make a quick Snowman Ornament from the Tilda's Christmas Ideas book for the top of my tree, i'll make one more tomorrow and also going to try and make christmas stockings for the same book too! :)

Wishing everyone a lovely weekend and will post more photos soon :)

Bird Brooches (Part Two)

After I've done my 1st batch of bird brooches in the previous post Here, I started the 2nd batch with different design, this time the bird is in the cage, well sort of anyway :)

Thanks to Zakkalife for sharing the tutorial on how to make these cuties. I only have 3 more items to make (10 each) then I'm done and i can start doing christmas decorations *hopefully*

I'm supposed to go to London today but my friend just replied my msg late last nite saying she could only meet me on saturday as she just booked a last minute day tour to Salisbury for today, Thanks God she let me know before i dashed out of the door this morning to take the train to london Victoria! She also said she cuts her holiday short and will be flying back to Indonesia on Sunday. Wish me luck that i wont get lost or having any kind of probs on my way to London for the first time on my own tomorrow and got back home safe and sound before dinner , if she doesnt cancel it again and says she cant meet me at all :)

Have a great weekend everyone!

Fun with Felts :)

I decided to use my felt stocks to make brooches, i'm glad i can manage to make 10 of these cute birds, i'm using the bird template from Cath Kidston Stitch book.

I'm in the process in making 10 more of a different bird design, so hopefully will be done today and off to do another craft project, maybe cushion heartshaped hanger, i dont know yet. I showed hubby of my brooch and his comment was, is it a penguin? *DOH* :)

I can't wait to finish everything so i can start on my christmas decorations, i see some of you have put up the christmas tree! accckk I'm sooo behind in this! My friend has arrived in London today and she's trying to lure me to accompany her galivanting around London coz she said it's no fun to go sightseeing alone. I don't think i can afford to pay the hotel and tickets to see Madame Tussauds, London Eye and a Harry Potter tour etc, so if I had to go, it'll probably just a day to spend walking around outside the Buckingham palace and Big Ben and taking her pics *sigh*

I still haven't reply her and she knows that i'm the type who can't say NO, i'm thinking like maybe this is also a way of saying she doesnt want to go all the way to my place if I said Yes to meet her and accompany her in London? I'm feeling rather unmotivated now :(

will keep you posted about this but meanwhile these cute bird brooches cheered me up a little. :)

Mini Apron

..a friend of mine offered me to join her charity craft fair event in december as she's one of the committee member of the event. I've never done this and part of me is excited and wanted to participate but part of me is kinda scared. I am not a well organized kind of person and i don't know if I had enough time to make things to sell, I'm not worried about the booking fee as it's reasonable and besides if i didn't sell anything, it's for a good cause anyway but i'm worried about what to sell and how to organize things.

Anyways, she gave me few tips about what to sell and the price range, she even gave me an idea what to sell, one of them is this mini bottle apron.

I made one for sample and if i decided to join the craft fair, then I'll have to make more, truthfully i still dont know if i should go or not but i'll have to inform her by this week. I already have some ideas what i'm going to make and sell and all the goods i'm going to sell would all be under £5. I already have some stocks but i need variety. Oh well....we'll see

so, what do you think? would appreciate any tips and ideas or comments on this if you have any :)

I ♥ Bunting

After a few days trying to get used to the new sewing machine, made a dash to the nearest haberdashery to buy some threads and learning to thread the bobbins as well as testing the 13 different stitches in a piece of fabric and added to that I've had a few panic attack when i made some mistakes putting the bobbins underneath which resulted some jams but thanks to hubby for trying to help me and calm me down and re-reading the manual again and again, I finally braved myself to make my first cushion cover.

I added bunting for extra cuteness :p I must say the stitches are still messy, i'm still learning on how to sew a straight line, it keeps running away from me :) I'm going to practice more, maybe on simple projects first.

I feel abit guilty on putting other half done projects aside because of this and there are so many new ideas that i wanted to do including christmas projects. So many things to do, so little time! I'll have to blame all of you lovely ladies for inspiring me :) each time i visited your blogs, i got inspired and wanting to make what you made, wanting to buy what you bought hehe...drooling over each and everyone's blog posts, I gotta say You're all my inspirations, so I Thank you!
